Rob Christley graduated in Veterinary Science (Sydney) in 1991 and subsequently completed a Diploma and Masters in Clinical Studies before going on to a PhD in epidemiology. This was interspersed with periods in practice, both in Australia and the UK.
His research interest is the interplay between animal health and society. Animal health impacts society through many mechanisms; zoonotic diseases and animal induced injury directly impact health, concern regarding such events may modify behaviour and, animal diseases may have social and economic impacts.
Drawing on expertise in epidemiology, statistics and sociology, Rob’s research touches on all of these issues, and aims to improve human and animal health and well-being.
Rob is the head of the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health in the Institute of Infection & Global Health and co-lead in the Epidemiological Approaches Theme in the Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections. He is also a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health.
