Dr Athman Mwatondo is a Medical Epidemiologist working for the Ministry of Health in Kenya. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Nairobi and MSc in Applied Epidemiology from Jomo Kenyatta University.
Currently co-heading the Zoonotic Disease Unit, Kenya’s One Health Platform, Athman is involved in initiatives bringing together animal and human health professions to address zoonotic diseases and other One Health drivers. These include development of key documents towards prevention and control of priority zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance and food safety, participating in collaborative research on the animal-human-environment interface as well as conduct zoonotic disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.
In addition, Dr Mwatondo supports the Director of Medical Services to implement International Health Regulations activities, and is also the focal person for Global Health Security Agenda programmes in Kenya
