Joshua Onono is a veterinarian with an interest in the application of economic concepts, methods and tools in disease control and prevention.
His 
initial research focused on estimation of prevalence of verotoxigenic E.coli within smallholder settings in peri-urban areas of Nairobi city. He had previously completed a PhD which investigated the economics of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia and its control in pastoral set ups in Kenya.
Recent research has focused on the application of economic tools and methods in disease control e.g the application of value chain analysis in the poultry production systems. Joshua’s current work with large-scale broiler farms in Kenya focuses on assessment of the environmental impact on productivity and product quality for broiler chicken, a project which is funded by the World Animal Protection.
Joshua’s interest in global one health research focuses on how the society approaches decision making with regards control of infectious diseases which have significant impact on people’s livelihoods. This encompasses broad study areas such as prioritisation of diseases, and estimation of impact of diseases in the society; analysing and formulating policies for disease control and prevention, and creation of platforms to support outreach and extension services to undeserved livestock farmers.
