Shumeye Belay, PhD Student, had attended his elementary and high school education at Gigike and Abi-Adi senior secondary school respectively starting from 1992 to 2002, Tigray, Ethiopia. He joined Haramaya University, in the department of animal science in October 2003 and graduated BSc degree in July 2006. After graduation, Shumeye was employed by Tigray Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development as a livestock production expert for about one year. Since the end of 2007, he has been working for Tigray Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) as a junior researcher to the present position working as researcher (I). In 2009, his institution gave him a chance to attend his MSc degree in livestock production and pastoral development in Mekelle University and graduated in July 2011. In the Institution, Shumeye has been working as department head of animal science and sub-national coordinator of African Chicken Genetic Gain (ACGG) project (2015-2018) which was funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and led by ILRI. Shumeye has published about 10 research articles, two reports and one manual related to my profession as author and co-author.
Since October 2018, Shumeye has been attending his PhD program in applied genetic under the Department of Microbial, Cellular and Molecular Biology and graduate fellow in ILRI, HORN project. His research project is founded by HORN project based at Addis Ababa and it is focused on biomolecular archaeology of one of the livestock species. This helps to combine archaeological and modern data for sustainable management and genetic improvement of local domestic animals.
